WISE GUYS: Weintraub's Landscape Contracts
By Tom Robbins

Last week's column detailed Koch administration plans to nominate a former city housing aide to take the place of the outspoken Anthony Tung on the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission. The new nominee, Lee Weintraub, began receiving contracts from his old agency, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, shortly after he finished a five-year stretch as head of its open space division. Records of city contracts obtained from the Comptroller's office show payment of $335,420 to Mr. Weintraub's firm of Weintraub and diDomenico since December 1984.

That's only a partial listing, however, one that doesn't include Mr. Weintraub's current work for the city's Public Development Corporation, for whom he is currently working on a $2.7 million contract for the Atlantic Terminal project in downtown Brooklyn.

With city work accounting for three-quarters of Mr. Weintraub's billings, the Koch administration shouldn't have to worry about ranks on the landmarks panel.
